Before a single cost is researched, we define the destination precisely: which city or region we're covering, which Indian departure city the estimate is built from (Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru), and which traveller profile we're addressing — solo, couple, family with kids, honeymooners. A "Bali trip from Mumbai" and a "Bali trip from Chennai" produce meaningfully different estimates; we make the assumption explicit on every page rather than burying it in small print.

Every Factvisit destination page uses three budget tiers. These aren't vague labels — each tier maps to specific, real categories of accommodation, dining, and transport that we cost independently and then sum. The tiers are anchored to what Indian travellers actually book, not global per-day averages from Western travel sites that include no flight cost and assume USD spending.

Flight prices are the most volatile part of any trip budget — they shift daily and vary enormously by booking window, season, and route. We handle this with ranges built from real fare sampling, not marketing averages. For each destination, we check live fares on Google Flights and Skyscanner across three booking windows (last minute, 4–6 weeks out, 3+ months out) and across both peak and shoulder season, from Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. We present the realistic range you'll actually encounter — not the cheapest flash-sale fare, and not the most expensive business class seat.

We do not use star ratings as a pricing proxy — a 5★ in Bali and a 5★ in Paris cost completely different amounts. For each destination we sample 8–15 specific hotels across all three tiers on Booking.com and Agoda, recording nightly rates for a mid-week stay in shoulder season. We identify which properties Indian travellers most commonly book (using review volume and Indian guest review share as proxies) and prioritise those in our estimates. Hotels that appear in our editorial recommendations are chosen entirely on guest experience quality — commission rate plays no role in which properties are featured or how positively they are described.

Food costs are broken down by meal type and tier — not averaged from a vague daily total. We cost street food meals, food court meals, mid-range restaurant meals, and one "special dinner" separately, then combine them based on a realistic meal pattern for each tier and destination. A budget traveller in Bangkok eats 2 street food meals and 1 food court meal per day — we cost each of those individually from on-ground menu data. We also note where Indian-friendly vegetarian options change the cost profile and where — Bali has a strong vegan scene; Bangkok's Jay food culture is excellent for vegetarians — because this matters to a large share of Indian travellers.

Attraction and activity prices are sourced directly from official websites, national tourism boards, and Klook/GetYourGuide for tour packages — not estimated or approximated from memory. We check these monthly, because entrance fees change more often than most travellers expect: Bali's temple levy, Bangkok's Grand Palace admission, and Boracay's environmental fee have all changed recently. We separate free attractions from paid ones in every guide, and flag where booking online (vs paying at the gate) saves a meaningful amount — because it often does, by 10–25%.
